Camponotus singularis

Camponotus singularis

Camponotus singularis is a red-headed Asian ant species. They feature large workers and since they are polymorphic, there are three castes of workers.
Camponotus singularis Ant length is approximately 12mm. A common sight around the bushes. This specimen is a sterile female worker. I have not seen the queen, but there are large headed soldiers which I will post in a separate image.

A popular collectable for bug enthusiasts in the west.

Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.

Camponotus singularis I have included this image, though perhaps not relevant, because from a photographic point I thought it was a bit special, and judging by the incredible standard of images on display, I assume just about everyone here is a photographer.

If you think it is inappropriate, I will take it down.

Distribution

Borneo, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam and China.
Camponotus singularis This is the soldier version of the species. The head is enormous and very intimidating, but the ant is not aggressive, at least towards me. Whenever you see a few workers around the bush, one or two of these soldiers will not be far away. A most impressive sight.
