Camponotus singularis
Ant length is approximately 12mm. A common sight around the bushes. This specimen is a sterile female worker. I have not seen the queen, but there are large headed soldiers which I will post in a separate image.
A popular collectable for bug enthusiasts in the west.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.

Camponotus singularis is a red-headed Asian ant species. They feature large workers and since they are polymorphic, there are three castes of workers.

I have to say though, this is a very beautiful ant and you have captured them beautifully! Posted 9 years ago
The bugs that I see on a daily basis would make the hobbyists drool. This is where Mr Attenborough goes for his holidays :)

I am seriously thinking of spending a year at Moramo waterfalls, on a bug expedition. This is the place were Megalara garuda was discovered by Dr Lynn. The wasp that the media exploded into a killer wasp the size of your arm. It turned out that it was only about 22mm long. What she said was, that it was the biggest of its genus in the world.
Sulawesi is supposedly one of the last places left for bug discoveries. I just want some cool shots before it gets torn down with mining operations and logging.
