JungleDragon

Draco viridis

Draco viridis is the nickname of the JungleDragon, refering to the green lizard that serves as a mascotte of the JungleDragon site. The JungleDragon is not a real species, yet it is largely based on a real species: the Emerald Basilisk.
JungleDragon now has 10,000 species! The above image marks a historic milestone we as a community have accomplished at JungleDragon. Despite our small size, with dedication and a warm community we have managed to collect a whopping 10,000 species.

The above image is quite special. It actually shows all these 10,000 species. It is a grid of 100 x 100 species. Each thumbnail is 100 x 100 pixels, making the original an enormous 100MP image.

This is what we have created, together, and it is fabulous. We have achieved a critical mass in our content base that is to be taken seriously. Another perspective on what we have done is visualized in this animation which shows how slowly but surely our green is spreading through the world:

All of this is the result of your green hearts, of which I'm very proud. As a special gift to celebrate this milestone, I'm offering the above image in its true size upon request. Believe me, it is quite amazing to deeply zoom into it. Just send me a direct message, and I'll share the download location. Draco viridis,JungleDragon

Appearance

Draco viridis is the most handsome creature on the planet.
Celebrating 50,000 Photos and 13,000 species! Dear community, I forgot to mention this in the weekly newsletter but this week we crossed the spectacular milestone of 50,000 wildlife observations. Perhaps more importantly, the diversity of these sightings is so high as to result in over 13,000 species, found all over the world.

Thank you for making JungleDragon what it is, our community may be small yet it feels like family to me. And I can ensure you that although I may currently be slow in updating the experience, I am fully committed to bring JD to a new level.

Keep sharing, keep caring.

Distribution

JungleDragons are currently of a rare kind, yet their numbers are growing.
JungleDragon celebrates 2,000 species! Dear community,

Yesterday we crossed the 2,000 species boundary! This is quite an accomplishment in many ways. First of all, it means that the species diversity is very high on JungleDragon, since we have less than 10,000 photos in total.

I'm also proud to report that about 75% of all photos on JungleDragon have their species identified. This very high number is the result of tireless community volunteers who take an interest in identifying species so that others can learn from them. We certainly are not the biggest in total images, but few sites are so disciplined and educational by linking specie information to photos and allowing a friendly way to walk the tree of life:
