Naming

Vol.5 of the Palaearctic Catalogue (Löbl & Smetana, 2008:p.318) has Scaphidema as neuter (hence: Scaphidema metallicum), but in volume 7 it is corrected thus:
"p. 318, Scaphidema is feminine [because of Latinized suffix –dema from Greek demas; ICZN Art. 30.1.3]: change the grammatical gender of the species-group names in Scaphidema L. Redtenbacher, 1849 from neuter to feminine"

Habitat

Adults are generally found under the bark of moulds invested, rotting trees, but occasionally also on the fungus Polyporus squamosus.

Reproduction

For the larval development this species depends on fungus invested, rotting wood of deciduous trees.
