Comb structure with a transverse proximal comb tooth, with the following teeth well separated. Combs restricted to the most proximal few pairs of pinnules.

Naming

The species' scientific name was published in 1986 by Rowe, Hoggett, Birtles & Vail.
Unaccepted synonym: Oxycomanthus mirus

Distribution

Tropical and warm temperate Indo-western Pacific from northern Australia.

Behavior

Solitary.

Habitat

Most abundant along the reef crest and in shallow water.
