Scolopostethus affinis (Schilling, 1829) is a species of Seed bug known from almost all of Europe. It overwinters as an imago, resulting in adult specimen being found all through the year.

1 The 1st and 2nd antenna segments pale, 3rd and 4th segments dark, but with the 3rd often slightly paler at the base, resulting in a much less defined/abrupt contrast between the pale and dark parts as in S. puberulus.
2 Usually brachypterous (some macropterous do occur) with the wing membranes generally a tad longer than S. thomsoni.
3. Legs pale, with only the fore femora somewhat darker usually.
4. Males carry two little hooks on the mesosternum between the coxae of the fore and middle legs (char. shared with S. grandis)

Appearance

S. affinis has a length of about 3.5-4.5mm and is usually brachypterous, with some macropterous specimen occurring much more rarely. The wings of brachypterous specimen are generally a tad longer than in its congener S. thomsoni. The 1st and 2nd antenna segments are pale, and the 3rd and 4th segments dark, but with the 3rd often slightly paler at the base, resulting in a much less defined/abrupt contrast between the pale and dark parts as in its congener S. puberulus. Males carry two little hooks on the mesosternum between the coxae of the fore and middle legs.
