Appearance
S. affinis has a length of about 3.5-4.5mm and is usually brachypterous, with some macropterous specimen occurring much more rarely. The wings of brachypterous specimen are generally a tad longer than in its congener S. thomsoni. The 1st and 2nd antenna segments are pale, and the 3rd and 4th segments dark, but with the 3rd often slightly paler at the base, resulting in a much less defined/abrupt contrast between the pale and dark parts as in its congener S. puberulus. Males carry two little hooks on the mesosternum between the coxae of the fore and middle legs.References:
