Doratifera pinguis

Doratifera pinguis

''Doratifera pinguis'', sometimes referred to as the Painted Cup Moth, although this name is usually applied to ''Doratifera oxleyi'', is a moth of the Limacodidae family. It is found over the whole eastern seaboard of Australia.
Pale Cup Moth caterpillar ( Doratifera pinguis) A bright green caterpillar about 30 mm long with a flat ventral side which it uses to creep on the leaf surface like a slug. The dorsal side has dark brown shields with evertable orange spikes set on tubercles. The anterior shield is larger than the one at the rear and they are both flat. This is one of the features that distinguishes this caterpillar from other Doratifera.
On either side of the midline and above the lateral spikes is a bright orange line. This is another distinguishing feature.
