The species Orthostheneboea laetior (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1907) is a Phasmid from the subfamily Necrosciinae Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893 and tribe Necrosciini Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893

The genus Orthostheneboea was newly created by Dr Francie Seow-Choen in his book, A Taxanomic Guide to the Stick Insects of Borneo, published in May 2016.

Appearance

There are 2 variations of this species :

- Highland
Length of male : 35 - 36 mm
Length of female : 33.5 - 48 mm

- Lowland
Length of male : 51 - 56 mm
Length of female : 63 - 66 mm

Both highland and lowland forms very similar except for size. Females usually dark green or brown with blotches or darker colour and whitish patches. Males tend to have green eyes and mesothorax with rest of body brown. Some males have scarlet coloration on ventral side.

Distribution

Seen in Sabah and also Sarawak, endemic to the island of Borneo
