Appearance

Female : generally brown. Antennae exceed length of forelegs. Head slightly longer than wide and longer than pronotum with lighter band above and below eyes. Mesonotum strongly carinated. Head, thoraces and abdomen of both sexes rugulose. Mesosternum and metastrnum carpeted with fine granulosities. Tegmina with sharp but short forward-pointing gibbus. Tegmina do not exceed posterior margin of metanotum and hind wings do not reach posterior border of median segment. Tegmina overlap but hind wings do not. Midpoint of posterior margin of abdominal tergites 2-9 with smal knob. Abdomen strongly carinae. Anal segment tent-like with notched posterior margin. Edge of lateral border of anal segment concave. Cerci short, spatulated and incurved. Operculum with notched tip just reaches start of lateral concavity of anal segment. legs unarmed and setose. Mesotarsus does not reach apex of profemur. Apex of mesofemur reaches transverse fissure or pronotum. Apex of metafemur reaches middle of 7th abdominal segment. Apical three-quarters of metatibia at level of tip of cerci.

Length of female : 54 - 57 mm

Male : generally brown. Antennae exceed length of fore legs. Head wider than long and almost same size as pronotum. Thin black longitudinal median line from head to pronotum. Mesonotum strongly carinated. Head, thoraces and abdomen rugulose. Mesonotum and mesosternum finely granulose. Tegmina with prominent, sharp, forward-pointing gibbus. Tegmina reach posterior margin of metanotum and hind wings just reach posterior border of median segment. Tegmina overlap but hind wings do not. Abdominal tergites without humps or lobes. Abdomen mildly carinate. Anal segment tent-like with notch, two sides rounded. Cerci cylindrical and setose. Poculum pointed and does not exceed posterior margin of 9th tergite. Legs unarmed and setose. Mesotarsus does not reach apex of profemur. Apex of mesofemur reaches back of head. Apex of metafemur reaches middle of 6th abdominal segment. Middle of metatibia at level of tip of cerci.

Length of male : 45-46 mm

Naming

This name comes from a combination of two Latin words; brevis meaning short and pennis meaning wings, for the short wings of this subspecies.

Distribution

This species is found in the highlands of Mt. Kinabalu, Sabah and is endemic to Borneo Island.
