Appearance
Miksicus acuminatus (Fabricius, 1775)is a medium large (14,4-18,5mm) beetle in the subfamily Cetoniinae (somewhat related to the Rose Chafers from the northern hemisphere).
Naming
Miksicus acuminata was first described by Fabricius in 1775 under the name Cetonia acuminata. Later, in 1963, Mikŝić used this species as the type for his newly described genus Urbania, so the beetle was renamed to Urbania acuminata. But Özdikmen & Turgut (2009) found Urbania to be a junior homonym (it clashed with another genus "Urbania" described by Hampson in 1901) and introduced the replacement name Miksicus for the genus Urbania (in honour of René Miksic, who originally described the genus Urbania), so today the valid name is Miksicus acuminatus. The species has been described as "new" by various authors (and later synonymized or renamed). Some of the names it has been known by are these:
Cetonia acuminata Fabricius, 1775
Cetonia marmorata Fabricius, 1801
Cetonia marmorea Weber, 1801
Cetonia daldorffi Schonherr, 1817
Urbania acuminata (Fabricius, 1775)
