Cinnamon frog

Nyctixalus pictus

''Nyctixalus pictus'', or the cinnamon frog, is a species of frog in the Rhacophoridae family.
Nyctixalus pictus, Spotted Tree Frog This small, unmistakable tree frog occurs predominantly in primary forest, from sea level up to 1750 metres altitude. Nocturnal in habit, it frequents low vegetation where it waits for insects and other prey. Its eggs are laid in tree cavities, where the young tadpoles are able to develop in safety.

The dorsal colour of this attractive frog ranges from orange to brown, flecked with tiny white spots, and the ventral surface is paler.

The species ranges from southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore, Borneo, Sumatra and the Philippine island of Palawan.

Appearance

It grows to about 35 mm in size, is brown or reddish brown with white to yellow spots on the body. Their finger and toe tips are dilated. The frogs are known to breed in phytotelms , dropping their tadpoles into the water.
Arboreal in nature, they are often found on shrubs and lower tree canopy in primary and secondary forests.
Red Stare This is quite a reddish variation of a Cinnamon Frog - Nyctixalus pictus.
Seen during night walk, was able to see it at the same place for 3 nights but a rather shy frog, when I put my lights on it, it shrivels up clinging to the leaf. It has white spots on its body and also white tips on its legs. Cinnamon Frog,Fall,Frog,Geotagged,Malaysia,Nyctixalus pictus,Sabah

Distribution

Subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests form the natural habitat. This species is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand up to elevations of 1650 m above sea level.
In Singapore, sizable populations are found in Bukit Timah and Central Catchment nature reserves.

They are however, threatened by habitat loss due to clearing forests for agriculture and logging.
