
Marsh snipefly - side view, Heesch, Netherlands
It took me a while to understand this is not a robber fly. The build of the insect suggests it, yet it's a snipe fly instead. The main way to tell is the lack of bristles on the chest, thorax and legs. You can see that they're smooth on the side view photo.
By far the most reported snipefly here is Rhagio scolopaceus, which looks very close, yet has on clear difference: it has black marks on the wings, whilst this species has clear wings.
