Marsh snipefly, Heesch, Netherlands It took me a while to understand this is not a robber fly. The build of the insect suggests it, yet it&#039;s a snipe fly instead. The main way to tell is the lack of bristles on the chest, thorax and legs. You can see that they&#039;re smooth on the side view photo. <br />

By far the most reported snipefly here is Rhagio scolopaceus, which looks very close, yet has on clear difference: it has black marks on the wings, whilst this species has clear wings.<br />
