Chrysomelidae larvae collage, Heesch, Netherlands On my recent hike, I spotted some aphids on a leaf. A classic scene and I figured it to be a cool subject for extreme macro, so I took the leaf with subjects included and brought it home.<br /> <br /> Only when previewing at large magnification on a big monitor did I realize the black dots were not aphids at all. I think they are the larvae of a Chrysomelidae beetle.<br /> <br /> Viewing 50 or so of these wildly chaotic and nervous larvae on a giant screen came as a bit of a surprise, if not a shock.       Sorry, I do not. All I know is that I picked this little branch with leaves at about 1.8m of height, so not a low plant. I may be able to revisit it soon as it's not far from me.
