Grote's Pinion - Lithophane grotei
My first moth of the season! This moth was cold and it snuggled up in my hands for several minutes so it could warm up enough to fly.
Total length: ~25 mm. Gray forewings with pale gray shoulder patch. Orbicular spot was whitish gray and hourglass-shaped. It contained two darker gray spots. The reniform spots were indistinct and gray with a slight black dot.
Habitat: Attracted to a light in a rural area.

Oddly, the parental controls on my computer blocked that photo, which is pretty ridiculous since it contains nothing harmful to a child. Posted 6 years ago
