
Unknown Bolete (Retiboletus sp.)
Growing below mostly pines in a wooded area of a public park in Floyd County, GA.
Short, fat, grayish-brown bolete which is short/stout in stature. Pores are buff to pale gold. Flesh is white. Cap is slick and smooth. Base of stem is yellow. Interior of central stem is red. Slight staining (blue/green) in flesh of stem.
Chemical analysis:
Iron salts—>Light olive on flesh and pores.
KOH—>Peach on cap. Pale pink on flesh. Orange/brown on pores.
Ammonia—>Peach on cap. Rose red on flesh and pores.
Flavor is very acrid! Disgusting!
