Sausage Jelly - Conuber egg mass ( Conuber sp.) A mass of jelly in the shape of a curled sausage and about the size of a cinnamon doughnut. The jelly appeared clear except for minute yellow specks (eggs) suspended in the jelly. The jelly mass seemed to be flatter on one side.
These are jelly egg cases of the Sand Snail. The eggs are laid in a string of jelly which swells up when in contact with water. They can be seen on mudflats. Here, they were spotted in the mangroves. These are laid by snails of the species seen in the previous spotting.
1. Fascinating find, Leuba! Posted 7 years ago
    1. Thanks Ferdie. I think it's interesting too but was horrified to know that each little yellow speck will one day drill through a poor bivalve, possibly. But that's nature I guess. Posted 7 years ago
      1. Very interesting photo/docu ... I would have thought it to be the egg mass of some Trichoptera (Caddis flies)

so thanks for the education! :o)

        1. They look so similar don't they ? except for the size and arrangement of eggs. These sausage jellies are huge - like a cinnamon doughnut in size and are definitely egg cases of Conuber species of snails. Thanks for the the link on caddies flies eggs-would have never known what they looked like. Also, these snail's egg cases can be seen in mangroves/tidal mudflats - they are marine.
