
Stick Insect, Phasmid - Phanoclocrania dorsuaria
This is the Male of Stick Insect, Phasmid - Phanoclocrania dorsuaria.
When it was first described by Stål back in 1875, it was placed under the genus name of Bostra.
In the year 2011, 2 German taxanomists - Hennemann & Conle studied this species further and created a new genus called Phanoclocrania and placed this species under it.
At the moment, there are only 2 species placed under the genus Phanoclocrania.
This species is rarely seen.

Sometimes, the antennae are part of the key to determine the different genus of Phasmids.
Some like this one has longer antennae than their front legs, some are medium length but shorter than their front legs and there are others that has extremely short antennae.
Sometimes, there are also differences between antennae length of Male & Females of the same species, for example the Leaf Insects/Phylliums, the Male only gets very long antennae during their final moult to adulthood whereas the Female remains with fairly short antennae. Posted 9 years ago
