Eumenninae wasp (?Paralastor sp.) A type of potter wasp exploring flowers in a local nature reserve.
Estimated 15mm long.
This one resembles a local specialist fly which appears at the same time of year and hunts spiders.
Very large calypters which give away it's flyness.
Body length about 10mm.
On Leptospermum or Kunzea sp. flowers at the edge of a local national park.
This fly is visually very similar to a species of wasp which appears at the same time of year that I think there must be some mimicry going on. http://www.jungledragon.com/image/37270/eumenninae_wasp_paralastor_sp.html Australia,Geotagged,Leucopsina odyneroides,Spring, diptera, mimicry" />
