Looks like a Giant Katydid, but apparently not!?!?! This 'not so little' girl scared my wife and I while walking home. We brushed against a plant over-hanging the path in our apartment complex and this is what leaped out... :O After making sure my wife was ok, i used my phone as a light and managed this shot using my old Zeiss 35mm f/2.4 (which is a surprisingly good macro). I love the fact that wildlife is everywhere here in India. 1. I don't think this is the right ID. Stilpnochlora couloniana has limited spread in Cuba and Florida so it is very unlikely to find it in India.

    1. Hi, i have checked again and I am 90% sure the ID is correct... 10% of me is never sure with insects. I will take another look tonight! Posted 10 years ago
      1. Well, I am 100% sure it isn't. If you look at the photo from the link below you will see that there are 2 triangular shapes with sharp edges - one on the pronotum which continues to the head and the other towards the wings. The edges of the pronotum of this one are rounded, the shape is not triangular and it doesn't have that pointed tip on the head between the eyes.

        1. I agree... It is definitely a Katydid, but it can't be a Giant given that distrobution...

          how about Ducetia dichotoma? http://s.ingrisch.macbay.de/oli/MSEG71_355.pdf

          1. This one is closer but it is hard to tell from these pinned specimens and the distribution is not spot on either.
