Red Slug crawling on rotten wood This species is very sensitive to dehydration, so it will only crawl after a shower, or after somebody like me bringing it to life by poking it. The "Thing" So, I was on a fungi trip in a forest nearby and about to head home when I got distracted by something orange in the distance. I though I had stumbled upon an orange ball-like fungus, but as I got closer it looked a little too "perfect" for that. Out of curiosity, and with some slight fear, I gently poked it with a stick. The Red slug

The red slug, also known as the chocolate arion or the European red slug, Arion rufus, is a large land slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Arionidae, the roundback slugs. This species is characterised by its (usually) red or brown body and lack of a keel.
