The "Thing" So, I was on a fungi trip in a forest nearby and about to head home when I got distracted by something orange in the distance. I though I had stumbled upon an orange ball-like fungus, but as I got closer it looked a little too &quot;perfect&quot; for that. Out of curiosity, and with some slight fear, I gently poked it with a stick. Here&#039;s what happened next:<br />

Pretty freaky, me believes. It turns out it is a red slug, and quite a nice one, they rarely get this big or this bright orange. Arion rufus,Europe,Heeswijk,Macro,Netherlands,Red slug Click/tap to enlarge

The red slug, also known as the chocolate arion or the European red slug, Arion rufus, is a large land slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Arionidae, the roundback slugs. This species is characterised by its (usually) red or brown body and lack of a keel.
