1. A gorgeous macro, really well done! Are you sure about the identification? Posted 11 years ago
    1. I am not sure. any suggestions for identification? Posted 11 years ago
      1. Based on its size and fur it may be a Digger bee:

Note that this still leaves many options.

        1. thank you so much fchristant :-) Posted 11 years ago
          1. I am not convinced this is the correct species either, I have no other suggestion for now. Posted 11 years ago
  2. I think this is a Xylocopa confusa male.
Xylocopa confusa male This bee took a dislike to my presence near its home. It hovered in front of my face for a few seconds, and then it would circle around me. This pattern was repeated until I either tried to get closer or walked away.

The first day’s images were not good, so I had to make a plan, and returned to the location several more times until I cracked the method.

This is the male of the species, and as such has no sting, so this display was all bravado.

Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.
1. Feel free to correct the ID. You have to remove the wrong one first from the red X below it. Posted 9 years ago
      1. It seems wrong to have the power to amend someone else's post. I guess it is part of being new to the site, I have to get my head straight on the way things work.

        1. This one should have remained unidentified because we knew the ID was wrong. We usually post a few good references when challenging an ID. We get some wrong IDs sometimes. Posted 9 years ago
          1. I agree, that is a fairer way of going about it. I will put up an argument with links tomorrow.
