Xylocopa confusa male
This bee took a dislike to my presence near its home. It hovered in front of my face for a few seconds, and then it would circle around me. This pattern was repeated until I either tried to get closer or walked away.
The first day’s images were not good, so I had to make a plan, and returned to the location several more times until I cracked the method.
This is the male of the species, and as such has no sting, so this display was all bravado.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.
