Green Lichen - P Test Results
P tests are sometimes done to help ID a lichen. This was my first time doing it and I'm not sure if I did it correctly. The procedure was to mix a crystal of para-phenylenediamine (P) with ethanol, then place a drop of the solution on the lichen. It turned parts of the lichen yellowish-orange.
I also did a NaClO test (Bleach) and KOH (potassium hydroxide). The bleach turned the lichen white and the KOH didn't appear to react at all.
Habitat: Growing on a rotting conifer; coniferous forest
