Beetle Mite - Acari I found this tiny mite in a rotting conifer log. I had collected pieces of the wood with lichen on it so I could ID the lichen at home with chemical tests under the microscope. As I was doing so, several of these tiny beetles (they look like specks without magnification) came out of the wood.

This individual was ~1.7 mm long. I took all of the photos with a digital microscope that has 20-200x magnification. I kept a couple specimens, and will try to get better photos, but I am not sure that I have enough magnification power with my scope. So, this might be the best I can do.
