Pine (Pinus sp.) Ovulate Strobilus - Longitudinal Section, 10x
This is a longitudinal section of a female (ovulate) pine strobilus (cone). I labeled a few important parts. A female cone has a central cone axis, which bears the scales. Ovuliferous scales have ovules on their upper surface. Ovules develop into seeds after fertilization. The scales protect the seeds during development.
