Thrip (Thysanoptera) inside California Poppy
Yesterday, Christine pointed out that the tiny creatures barely visible in the core of this flower...
...are thrips. An insect order (Thysanoptera) I had not even heard of and easy to miss at 1mm or smaller. Today I took the 2X and 5X macro gear to try and capture them.
A challenge to say the least. I had to get the lens inside the flower. Then added a ring focus light because I couldn't see anything at all. Followed by handheld focusing at 5x macro on erratic subjects, which very much is spray and pray. Not 100% happy with the result but still happy to have captured my first thrips, with major credit to Christine for the idea!
