...are thrips. An insect order (Thysanoptera) I had not even heard of and easy to miss at 1mm or smaller. Today I took the 2X and 5X macro gear to try and capture them. <br />

A challenge to say the least. I had to get the lens inside the flower. Then added a ring focus light because I couldn't see anything at all. Followed by handheld focusing at 5x macro on erratic subjects, which very much is spray and pray. Not 100% happy with the result but still happy to have captured my first thrips, with major credit to Christine for the idea!<br />

''Eschscholzia californica'', the California poppy, golden poppy, California sunlight or cup of gold, is a species of flowering plant in the family Papaveraceae, native to the United States and Mexico. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant flowering in summer , with showy cup-shaped flowers in brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow . It is also used as food or a garnish. It became the official state flower of California in 1903.
