Bashful Wakerobin - Trillium catesbaei
Trillium catesbaei is a southern species that generally doesn't grow wild north of North Carolina, so this is an rare/unusual spotting.
I first spotted these two plants in May 2021 and went back to check on them a couple days ago. Only one plant is blooming. One plant is small and tattered. The larger plant has a bud that was partially open and tattered leaves. No other plants were observed in the area.
Habitat: Deciduous forest
Observation from May 2021:

''Trillium catesbaei'', also known as bashful wakerobin or rosy wake-robin, is a spring flowering perennial plant found in the southeastern United States. Like most trilliums, it prefers moist, humus-rich soil in shade.
