Bark bug

Neuroctenus grandis

Flat bugs about 12mm long which live under loose bark.
Bark bug nymphs (Neuroctenus grandis) Funky, mechanoid looking bugs about 11mm long. Found under the bark of a fallen black wattle. 
In a local nature reserve.
Of the 1,200 Neuroctenus records in Australia only Neuroctenus grandis is found in Victoria.

Appearance

About 12mm long.
Dorso-ventrally flattened, narrow dark grey head thorax scutellum legs.
Wings reduced. Connexivum with dark reddish.
Often found in nymphal form which are pale grey and tan tones.

East coast of Australia

Complete life cycle under bark.

Habitat

Woodlands including Eucalyptus and Acacia species.
