Ceratosanthes hilariana

Ceratosanthes hilariana

Ceratosanthes hilariana is a South American species of vine in the gourd family. It was described by Célestin Alfred Cogniaux in 1877.
Yvy'a flower (Ceratosanthes Hilariana) In Guarani “yvy'a”, fruit of the earth, an inconspicuous vine that grows in the Paraguayan Chaco. It produces an aqueous tuber which can grow to half a meter in size. It is sought after in dry season as a source for water. During the Chaco War (Bolivia - Paraguay 1932/35), soldiers would dig them up and squeeze out the juice to drink. Lives were saved.
