Equatorial Anole

Anolis aequatorialis

Anolis aequatorialis is immediately recognizable for its multicolored dewlap, which is marbled with black. It also has a baroque combination of irregular patches, streaks, reticulations and a series of dark vertebral chevrons on a normally olivaceous background.

Behavior

Extremely common. It is almost ubiquitous in any sufficiently moist, shady and forested ecosystem. At night, it sleeps on leaves or ferns that will move if disturbed by a predator. Anolis aequatorialis is a lethargic thermoconformer that basks on filtered sunlight, and also a sit-and-wait insectivorous predator that may as well voluntarily include flowers and other plant matter in its diet. Anolis aequatorialis is wary, elusive and cryptic. It will sometimes bite when handled.
