Distribution

Palearctic ecozone, recorded in almost all European countries.
Burnt Wolf Spider (Xerolycosa nemoralis) There was a time in late spring and early summer when there were so many Wolf spiders under my feet during my daily explorations, it required extreme care not to step on them. I suspect it was nigh on impossible to succeed 100% of the time.

When you see so many and you know they can be extremely difficult to identify, even from the best photographs, it's all too easy to fail to pay them any further attention.

Luckily, on a late afternoon visit to local woods, something must have triggered my interest, because this time I did pay attention to a few individuals scurrying across a small clearing.

They turned out to be something a little special, for me at least.
