Scolia sexmaculata

Scolia sexmaculata is a scolid wasp in the Scollidae family. With a body length of 9–15 mm, this insect is slightly smaller than its sister species, Scolia hirta.

Appearance

It also differs in that its bands on tergites 3, 4 and 5 are white and interrupted. The basic colouring of the head, thorax and body is black with dense black hairs in places. There are two white spots on the back of the head.

Another striking feature is that the wings, which are otherwise almost black, have a rust-brown to golden-brown stripe on the front edge.
