Naming

Pristimantis kayi is named in honor of the German physicist and biologist Andreas Kay.

Distribution

It is known from the Cordillera de Guacamayos, Sumaco Volcano (Napo Province) and Cerro Mayordomo, Machay Reserve, Naturetrek Vizcaya Reserve, Leito Reserve (Tungurahua Province).
