Appearance

This herbaceous plant features a bulb with leathery tunics containing internal hairs. The stem reaches a height of 10-30 cm, and the leaves are slender and linear. The flowers boast 6 distinct, dark red, spatula-shaped petals, measuring 30-50 mm. The outer petals are smaller with a greenish tint at the base, while the inner ones are larger with a dark spot at the base.

Distribution

It is an endemic species of Crete, specifically thriving in the region of Rethymno. Its largest populations are concentrated on the small plateau of Gious Kampos in Rethymno.

Habitat

Seasonally damp habitats with deep soil in cultivated and fallow fields and olive groves. 400-800 m.
