Italian bellflower

Campanula fragilis

From a somewhat woody rootstock with more or less prostrate, flexuous stems 30-45cm in length. Leaves rounded, boldly crenate, deep lustrous green. Flowers 3-4cm in diameter with broad, pointed wide-spreading lobes giving a star-likeappearance, medium blue with a dark ring at the base.

Appearance

Central and southern Italy among coastal limestone rocks. C.f. subsp. cavolinii has ovate, cordate serrated leaves, flowers 2.5-3cm wide and inhabits the Apennines.
