Appearance

Size: 4 to 6 mm. Cryptocephalus bipunctatus is a black and orange red beetle, but markings can be rather variable. It may have one black longitudinal band on each elytron, or the band may be broken to form two spots, usually one on 'shoulder' and one in the centre of the elytron. The pronotum and legs are black.

Distribution

Widespread.

Habitat

Found on birches, oaks, willows, alders, hazel trees, lime trees, maples, hawthorns, brambles, etc., from May to July.
