Appearance

Elongated and oval in shape. Head and thorax black, elyrtra dull yellow or purplish and rough, with black spots. Size: 14-18 mm.

Distribution

Occurs in the United States. Kansas and Wyoming to Mexico. Common in southeastern Arizona. Not present in Texas.

Habitat

Meadows, fields, woodlands, gardens

Reproduction

Female lays eggs in bark crevices of fallen rotting logs; adults emerge in summer.

Food

Adults feed on nectar, pollen, and some fungi. Larvae feed on wood-destroying fungi.
