The host plant is Vitis riparia Michx, with common names riverbank grape or frost grape, is a vine indigenous to North America. From the galls, tiny orange, about 2.5 mm larvae emerge and drop to the ground, where they burrow to pupate. The adult gnat also has an orange-colored body with darker stripes.References:
