Diphyus quadripunctorious

Diphyus quadripunctorious is a parasitic wasp in the family Ichneumonidae.
Ichneumon Wasp (Diphyus quadripunctorious) The one thing we know about Ichneumon wasps is, we don't know enough about Ichneumon wasps!

That is, we know a fair amount about some of them, but with at least 2,500 species in the UK alone, many of them are under-studied and under-recorded.

This wasp is one of them, but what we do know accompanies this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3_FoQujpFY Diphyus quadripunctorious,Geotagged,Spring,United Kingdom

Appearance

It has distinctive black and yellow markings on both the femora (thighs), and abdomen which has two yellow bands, the antennae are a uniform grey. A sexually dimorphic species in that whilst the males are seen in this bright black and yellow colouration, the females retain the leg colouration but their abdomen is plain orangey brown with a hint of a single yellow band. Their antennae, again grey, have a white band approximately half way along.

Habitat

Found in woodland edges, grasslands and meadows during late spring and early summer
