Appearance

Varies in colour from blue to red with night and day. Max size: 20 cm. Slender silvery body with three dark green-brown stripes along upper body, and small dark tail tips.
Body silvery bluish, dorsal side horizontal stripes thick brown and thin light blue alternating, ventral whitish. 4-5 cheek scales; 20-30 predorsal scales; supra temporal scale band confluent at dorsal midline; scaled dorsal and anal fins. Postmaxillary processes 2; posterior end of maxilla tapered. Upper peduncular scale rows usually 11; lower peduncular scale rows usually 15. Process on basioccipital flat for insertion of Baudelot's ligament. Head length 2.8-3.9 in SL; body depth 3.3-4.9 in SL.

Often schools with other fusiliers.

Habitat

Found in schools, often seen feeding midwater, over coral reefs.

Reproduction

Oviparous, with numerous, small pelagic eggs.

Food

They feed on zooplankton.
