Leucobryum javense is a species of moss in the family Leucobryaceae.

Appearance

Leucobryum javense has creeping stems that often form large mats or cushions varying in colour from almost white (when dry) to pale green. The linear-lanceolate leaves are curved and crowded on the stem. A vein (nerve), almost as broad as the leaf, is sandwiched between large clear cells so that the leaf is several cells thick. Plants are unisexual.

Formerly Leucobryum candidum.

Distribution

Widespread in New Zealand

Habitat

Grows on old logs and stumps, soil, rock and the bases of trees.
