Appearance
It is completely black, with a large head, which seems smaller due to the width of the pronotum that expands laterally forming a shield with pointed ends, which is what indicates the genus of its scientific name. The globular abdomen has a slightly pronounced longitudinal keel, formed by the fusion zone of the elytra. In this way, these beetles cannot fly -they do not have developed membranous wings either-, and they move by walking somewhat clumsily, with slow and unbalanced steps.
