Appearance

Size up to 25 cm (10 in.).
Purplish brown with dark scale centers. White wide bar on head behind eye and whitish tail and base. Similar to S. vosmeri but the latter has yellow dorsal, anal and tail fins.

Distribution

E. Africa to Indonesia.

Behavior

Solitary or in small groups.

Habitat

Sand and rubble bottoms, 2-25 m.
