Geelvink Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus speciosus) There are some amazing colourful doves on the planet and the fruit doves in New Guinea are among the stunning ones. This is just one of them that I photographed on a small remote island called Numfor in Papua. Naming

The Geelvink fruit dove was formerly considered conspecific with the yellow-bibbed fruit dove, but was recognized as a distinct species by the IOC in 2021.
Geelvink Fruit Dove One of the most beautiful fruit dove species on the planet. Here we have a pair with the male being more colorful than the female. The female does not need these bright colours as it will be sitting on eggs on the nest in the open. It has to blend in to avoid threats from raptors and such.
