Water Mattress

Plantago rigida

"Plantago rigida", colloquially known as "Colchón de agua", is a species of flowering plant in the plantain family found in the high-altitude páramo biome of South America.
Water Mattress - closeup 1, Antisana Ecological Reserve, Ecuador This plant occurs in large clusters shaped like a cushion. Manuel (our guide) referred to it as the "poor man's mattress". Aptly named as it's only slightly more comfortable compared to plain rock. These plants have a hard, plastic-like feeling to them.
