White-footed mouse

Peromyscus leucopus

The white-footed mouse is a rodent native to North America from Ontario, Quebec, Labrador, and the Maritime Provinces to the southwestern United States and Mexico. In the Maritimes, its only location is a disjunct population in southern Nova Scotia. It is also known as the woodmouse, particularly in Texas.

According to @cadecampbell on iNaturalist, he IDed it as this species for this reason: "Dull bicolouration of tail and broad, dark dorsal stripe (not diagnostic, but a common characteristic)."

While their maximum lifespan is 96 months, the mean life expectancy for the species is 45.5 months for females and 47.5 for males. In northern climates, the average life expectancy is 12–24 months.
White-footed Mice - Peromyscus leucopus These cute mice were about 5-7 cm long (excluding tails), had black eyes, pale pink noses, rounded ears, and a white ventral surface. They had a wide, darkish dorsal stripe.

Habitat: Found in a map box at a nature center. A month or so ago, someone put an old, empty bird's nest in this box. Today, we found these two mice in the box. They had gotten in through a small opening in the side of the hinged box, had rearranged the bird's nest, and made a cozy home for themselves.
