Barylypa propugnator

Barylypa propugnator

13 to 20 mm. Fairly large orange and black Ichneumon.
Ichneumon Wasp (Barylypa propugnator) What an impressive wasp this is and although I only saw it for a minute or so just outside my front door, it left quite an impression.

It's taken me since July to get a confirmed ID, which isn't surprising since it came down to minute details.

To see what they were, watch this video and read the accompanying info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhhhTxX_RPo Barylypa propugnator,Geotagged,Summer,United Kingdom

Habitat

Meadows and hedgerows, sometimes nectaring on umbellifers such as Hogweed.
